The Origin of St. Valentine
The origin of St. Valentine, and how many St. Valentines there were,
remains a mystery.
One opinion is that he was a Roman martyred for refusing to give up his Christian faith.
Other historians hold that St. Valentine was a temple priest jailed for defiance
during the reign of Claudius.
Whoever he was, Valentine really existed because
archaeologists have
unearthed a Roman catacomb and an ancient church dedicated to
Saint Valentine. In 496 AD Pope Gelasius marked
February 14th as a celebration in honor of his martyrdom. 

A PRAYER FOR THE HEART
Our most gracious and merciful loving Lord and Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your compassion and loving kindness.
You know and supply all our needs.
Lord, You seek those who are lost, bind those who are broken,
strengthen those who are sick. I know You are with me,
O Lord. Your rod and Your staff will comfort me from affliction
and protect me as I walk through this time of illness. amen

Dogwood Tree Legend Story

As legend has it, the cross on which Jesus was crucified was made from a dogwood tree.
God decreed that the dogwood tree would from that day
forth never grow large enough to be used to make a cross.
Thus, the dogwood tree is a small tree.
The flower of the dogwood has  four petals which makes the shape of a cross.
The center of the flower resembles the crown of thorns with bright red,
clustered fruit in the center representing the blood of Christ. 
The dogwood blooms in April when Easter Sunday 
marks the resurrection of Christ after the Crucifixion.
